Jaykay is a loving, calm, and intelligent companion. Samantha is a sweet dog who was abandoned in King, NC. She had been starved and not cared for very well, her ribs are showing, and she has some skin issues. She is very good dog who plays well with other dogs, and doesn't seem aggressive around cats. She is a medium sized dog and will weigh between 35 and 40 pounds when she gains the weight she needs to. She is going to the vet and will have her shots and treatment for her skin. The only responsibility the person who adopts her will have is to spay her and give her a good loving forever home. This friendly chocolate lab mix was found wandering around in a field, where she was likely dropped off by her owners.  Her ribs and hip bones were sticking out, she had minor bloody abrasions, and seemed very scared. Charlie is a Katrina rescue dog and we have provided him a great home for a little over 4 years now and he is a great dog. He is medium-sized, about 28 pounds, and crate trained. Gramps is a senior unaltered Brittany spaniel. He was found curled up outside a school in the cold rain. Once he got warmed up, he was walking around, sniffing and exploring. Leroy is a sweet boy looking for the great home he deserves. He has competed in event shows before, but now he just likes to relax on the trails or do a bit of light riding in the ring. He has a clean bill of health and has never had shoes. Although Leroy's birth certificate says he's 20, he still thinks he's 4 years old! Poor Bandit, along with his housemate Chance, was surrendered to the Granville County Animal Shelter when his human companion relocated to New Jersey.  I and other volunteers had been trying to find new homes for them when we heard about what their owner had done.  By some miracle, they were not put down as “owner surrenders," allowing me time to make the 3-hour round trip to save them.  Both are now comfortably fostering with me.

Bandit is a purebred Snowshoe Siamese, one of the more rare types of Siamese cats.  He is 5 years old, front declawed and neutered.  He is up-to-date on all vaccinations and FeLV/FIV negative.  Bandit weighs around 9.5 lbs, which my vet considers a bit underweight for his bone structure.  So, I’m trying to fatten this little fellow up!          

Bandit’s behavior does not match that of your typical Siamese cat.  He is very quiet and undemanding, even a bit timid.  Thanks to being in touch with his former owner, I’ve learned that some of this comes from his being a hurricane Katrina survivor.  While his housemate, Chance, seems to have taken all the recent upheavals in stride, these changes have stressed Bandit.  Fortunately, the quiet environment in my home seems to be helping and he is starting to come out of his shell, eating better and playing with his new toys.       

While not as outgoing as his housemate, Chance, Bandit is a friendly and affectionate fellow.  He loves to have his head petted and his neck and chin gently scratched.  According to his former owner, when dominant Chance is not around, Bandit likes to sit in your lap and be lavished with attention.
    

Bandit obviously does well with other cats, if he can put up with bossy Chance.  He is not a dominant cat, so other feline companions will need to be gentle and friendly.  I can also see Bandit as someone’s cherished only pet. 

Since he is somewhat timid, Bandit will need a quiet home with a patient and understanding caregiver.  I will not place him in a home with children.  However, because of his quiet and undemanding nature, a single person or couple working outside the home and with a quiet lifestyle will be considered.

Chance is 6 years old, front declawed and spayed.  She is up-to-date on all vaccinations and FeLV/FIV negative.  You can’t really see it in the photos, but she is vision impaired in one eye.  Thanks to being in contact with their former owner, I learned that Bandit, when an infant, accidentally scratched Chance’s eye.  My vet discovered that the pupil in that eye still works, so the problem is simply a cloudy cornea from the injury.  It really doesn’t seem to bother her at all.
     

Chance loves attention and is definitely a lap kitty, who also enjoys snuggling up on your chest.  She is also one of those cats who like to give little kisses and head-butts.  In other words, Chance is a total sweetheart, a personality all the more amazing for being a hurricane Katrina survivor!
    

While she and Bandit get along, Chance does have a dominant personality.  She’s not aggressive, but definitely wants to be queen bee.  I believe Chance would be happy as an only cat, provided she receives lots of loving human attention.  She would also be fine in a multi-cat household where the others would allow her to rule.
    

Chance is very people-oriented.  However, I will not place her in a home with young children.  A family with older children familiar with cats is a possibility.  She would be ideal for a retired person/couple or someone working from home, who wants a little companion to love and cherish.
    

I’ve been working with cats for 30+ years and ones with Chance’s delightful personality don’t come along every day.  She is going to make some lucky person or family a wonderful companion!

Cam is a 4 1/2 year old Pitbull/Lab? mix.  He is neutered and has had all of his shots.  He is a real sweetheart and very smart.  He is not dominant with other dogs -- he loves people and other dogs.  We don't think he is good with cats.  He is crate trained and housebroken as long as he has a schedule.  He has spent most of his life chained in a back yard.  He wants to live in a house and have a family.  He needs some help learning to walk on a leash since this is a relatively new thing for him.  Right now Cam is staying at a vet's but his current caretaker can not pay for that much longer.  His sweet nature and intelligence make it worth all the effort to try and find him a good home.  If you are interested in Cam please contact Andrea DelGrosso at (336) 301-2038.

Sasha is a 9-month old Belgian Malinois.  She is kennel trained and weighs 30-35 pounds.  Sasha is friendly but reserved and can be suspicious of strangers. Buddy is a not-quite-one-year-old, playful male mix breed - collie/great pyrenees. He loves to play with stuffed toys and chase balls. He plays well with toddlers and small children. He loves to lay under the dining room table during meals and will clean up just about any food spills (lettuce is the only exception thus far). My name is Macy. I am Jake's best friend. I might be a black and red shepherd mix but my foster mom thinks I may be a border collie mix. I think I'm just Macy. I'm about two years old. Desi is a 2 year old lab mix.  She and her siblings were dumped out in the country (as puppies), in a tied garbage bag, and left to die.  A high school girl kept "Desi" and found homes for the other 3.  However, Desi's life has been spent outside in a back field, chained to a shed.  The shed is 500% full of junk, so she can't even get inside for shelter.  To avoid the elements, she has to stand on the front porch of the shed, which is about 4'x6' (if that), but she has a 'too small' dog house sitting up there as well.  Desi is a very sweet girl with a nice temperament, and actually has a shiny coat.  She's in good shape for being tied outside, and the owner states she is up-to-date on her vaccinations and will provide vet records.  Desi is also good with other dogs, as the neighbor's dog goes down to visit with her and keep her company.  She enjoys any attention she can get.  If you are interested in adopting Desi, please contact Jill Bosch at (336) 885-1518.

Handsome Henry the Hounddog is searching for a new home. He is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who was found dodging cars and begging at a rest area.  His foster family already has several dogs of their own but couldn't leave the emaciated dog to be hit. They have had his shots updated and had him neutered. Scarlett is a seven year old full-breed Llaso Apso.  She is a very loving and loyal lap dog who is eager to lavish love and affection upon her owner. "Teddy" is a 10 year old AQHA palomino gelding who has been a therapy horse at HorseFriends for the last two years.  Teddy has decided that being a therapy horse is not his calling and would much rather be on the trails or in the ring with an experienced rider. He has had some Western Pleasure training in the past.  Teddy has a very sweet nature, great conformation, good feet and is sound and healthy. He is blind in one eye, but it does not affect him at all as he has adjusted to it very well.  Please call Sharon at 336-644-9019 for more info and if you are interested in providing Teddy with a forever, great home. 

Isis is a 3.5 year old purebred Sphynx cat that needs a loving new home.  She has not adjusted to having other animals in the house, which was ok until her family moved to North Carolina and had to make their outdoor animals, indoor animals.  She requires a home without any other animals. She also requires a weekly bath and ear cleaning, which she has had since she was a kitten and does not fuss about it at all.  She has been declawed, spayed, and is up to date on all of her vaccines. This guy was abandoned off of 85 with a bag of dog food.  He is great with the kids in his foster home (ages 6 and 8) and shows no sign of food aggression.  He is crate-trained, housebroken, and respects boundaries around the house.  He is a little bit of a "talker" when he plays.  His main issue is that he will chase cats or anything that runs.  He responds well to calm, assertive people with his tail wagging -- his foster family has no clue as to why anyone would abandon him.  Please contact David at (336) 312-2072 for more information about this great dog.

Belle is a 3 year old, black and tan bloodhound.  She was rescued from a high-kill shelter, with hopes of training her for search and rescue.  Belle has started her trailing training and is showing promise.  Unfortunately, her owner was diagnosed with a health condition that is going to prevent her from training and working with her.   Belle loves people of all ages and adores having her chest scratched.  She also has an endearing habit of sitting at your feet and leaning against your leg, then looking up at you for some attention. She is dog door trained and house broken.  Belle loves water and will happily splash around in a wading pool.  She also loves to be bathed.  Riding in the car is another favorite activity. Belle is dominant with other dogs, particularly other females.  So, she would do best as an only dog or with a single, smaller and submissive male dog.  She'll chase cats, if they run; if they don't run, she's not interested. A fenced yard is required and bloodhound experience a plus.   Belle is spayed, fully vaccinated, HW negative and on preventative, and microchipped.  If you are interested in this great dog, please contact Kitty at cnkelder@rtelco.net.

Biscuit is a 6 year old Beagle; he is up-to-date on all shots and is neutered.  Biscuit has been a loyal and very sweet dog, but his family is unable to give him the attention he needs.  He is great with kids and loves people.  Biscuit is pretty laid back, but gets excited when people come to visit.  He needs to be walked regularly and get lots of snuggle time.  He would be the perfect addition to any caring family.  Please contact Elisabeth at (336) 665-9850 or elisabethkraska@yahoo.com if you are interested in adopting Biscuit.
