Cookie & Crumble

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: Young

“Cookie and Crumble” are young sisters who are very timid around people and really need to be in a herd of friendly goats to learn that people are OK.  They are currently being fostered near Columbia, South Carolina.  They have been vaccinated and dewormed.  Because they are so skittish, we will waive their adoption fee for a home where they could be combined with some tame goats.  They like horses but do not like dogs or pigs.  Please complete the application above.

Ralph, Alice, Norton, Trixie & Clint.

BREED: Goats

AGE: Adult

Bio coming soon! If you are interested in adopting this herd please complete and application above.

Molly Mutton

BREED: Sheep

AGE: Adult

“Molly Mutton” has been spotted in the Vineyards neighborhood in Summerfield for over a year, but no one has been able to catch her until now.  We worked with the Coleman family, who had been feeding her each night, and finally caught her and moved her to a foster home.  Our veterinarian will vaccinate her on Monday.  We have no idea where she came from (or whether she is actually a she), but we do know that she will feel a lot better once she is sheared!  If you know anyone who knows how to shear sheep and might volunteer for the job, please let us know. Stay tuned for more details!

Lulu

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: Adult

“Lulu is a three year old pot bellied pig who is very tame and used to being petted.  She can be a bit bossy if she doesn’t get her way, so she would be best suited for an experienced pig owner who knows how to be a strong alpha.  She came to us overweight and is currently on a diet, so she needs to continue that diet in her new home.  Lulu is used to being an only pig and is not interested in sharing her living quarters with other animals.  She is very cute and will make a great pet for the right person.

Pot bellied pigs need shelter from the elements and a sturdy fence and room to run and root with their noses.  If you are interested in adopting a pot bellied pig, please research their needs before applying.  They are a 12 – 15 year commitment!”

Lulu’s adoption fee is $75.

Update! (3rd picture) - Lulu (left-bottom) loves sleeping and playing with her with foster siblings. When Lulu first came to Red Dog Farm she was used to being an only pig and was not interested in sharing her living quarters with any other animals. As you can see, things have changed and Lulu loves having new pig friends!

Blackbeard

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: 8 years

Blackbeard and Mary Ormond came to us when their owner could no longer care for them.  They are not sure about humans yet but are slowly learning that we offer treats, so they will now let us get close but are not quite ready to be petted.  Blackbeard came to us intact but has now been surgically castrated and both of them have been vaccinated.

Update!  Mary Ormond (second picture) has been adopted, but Blackbeard is still available.  He is a bit bossy to female goats unless there is another male in the group to remind him of his manners.  In his foster home, there are two other large wethers (castrated males) who keep him in his place, and he fits in with the whole herd of wethers and does and gets along with everyone just fine.

To help cover a portion of the cost of his vaccines and castration surgery, Blackbeard's adoption fee is $100.

Butterbean & Odie

BREED: Pot Bellied Pigs

AGE:

“Butterbean” is a 6 month old neutered pot bellied pig who came to us when his owners realized that they did not have an appropriate home for him.  Butterbean is as sweet and tame as any pig we’ve ever fostered.  He knows how to “sit” for a treat and loves belly rubs.  He loves to sleep in his doghouse inside his stall.  He also loves to root and dig with his snout, so he needs a home where he will have a secure enclosed pasture and plenty of room to root up plants and grass to munch on.

"Odie" was also surrendered because his owners realized that he is not an appropriate indoor pet. Odie was neutered last week and we have since paired him with Butterbean as they are close in age. They will need a farm home with secure fencing where they can live an outdoor life with a warm, dry shelter in which to sleep.

Butterbean and Odie's joint adoption fee is $200.

Update!  Butterbean and Odie are now the best of buddies!  They are SO cute and snuggle together every night in their doghouse.  They are extremely tame and follow their foster mom around the farm when she is home to supervise and lets them out of their paddock.  These two are precious!

Annie

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: Young

“Annie” is a young pot bellied pig who was found as a stray in Charlotte.  Her collar was embedded in her skin and she was dragging a tether, so we are assuming that she was tied out somewhere.  She is very tame and friendly and was obviously treated well as a young pig, but must have gotten in to the wrong hands.  Annie will need a pig companion, a stall or shelter, room to run and graze and sturdy fencing in her new home.  If you are interested in adopting Annie, please read this article about pig care/requirements and then complete the online adoption application above.

Seven New Sheep

BREED: Katahdin/ Suffolk Mixes

AGE: 5 years old

These seven sheep were recently surrendered to Red Dog Farm when there owners could no longer care for them. They were well cared for before coming to us. They will come up to you treats and are about as tame as sheep get. There are six males and one female. The males are five years old and all have been castrated. They are Katahdin/Suffolk mixes so they will need to be sheared each spring.

We will only adopt them out as one whole group or a group of three and a group of four. Their group adoption fee is $500.

Sweet Pea & Pam

BREED: Pot Bellied Pigs

AGE:  4 months old

"Sweet Pea" is a very tame, social 4 month old pot bellied pig who came to us when her original owner realized that pigs are not appropriate pets for apartment living. Sweet Pea's foster mom reports that she LOVES people and even likes to snuggle with the litter of foster puppies that her foster family is caring for.  What a doll!

"Pam" is a 19 lb, 4 month old Teacup pig who was raised indoors and is quite tame and used to people.. Pam was surrendered when her owners came to the conclusion that they just didn't have enough time for Pam and that she would do better in a farm setting with other animals. Since coming to Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network she moved in with Sweet Pea and the two now share a stall and paddock. They really seem to enjoy one another and we would like to adopt them together as a pair.

We have seen a huge influx of pot bellied pigs lately because so many people buy them thinking they are indoor pets and then give them up when they get "too big." Pigs are farm animals and need room to graze, wallow, run, play and be a pig! They require sturdy fencing and shelter from bad weather, such as a stall or run-in shed. Before considering adopting a pot bellied pig, please do research regarding their specific needs. We recommend you check out this website for more information about pig ownership!

Sweet Pea & Pam's joint adoption fee is $200.

June

BREED:

AGE: 5 years old

On June 10th we took in 21 goats from a situation in which the owner could no longer care for them and did not have adequate space for the herd.  "June" is the only goat left from that herd and is still waiting for an adoptive home.  She is currently living in a small herd of goats and sheep belonging to her foster family.

June's adoption fee is $75.

Wilber

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: 9 months old

"Wilber" came to us when his owners could no longer keep him. He is a very tame young male and has now been neutered.

We recommend Mazuri Mini Pig feed for all pot-bellied pigs.

We have seen a huge influx of pot bellied pigs lately because so many people buy them thinking they are indoor pets and then give them up when they get "too big." Pigs are farm animals and need secure fencing and room to run and play.

*Wilber and Gus are now sharing a stall and paddock and have become good buddies.  We would love for them to be adopted together.  Their adoption fee will be $100 each or $150 for both.

Gus

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: 6 months old

"Gus" is a 6 month old neutered male pot bellied pig who was recently surrendered to us. He is the sweetest, most tame pig imaginable. He loves carrots and belly rubs.

We recommend Mazuri Mini Pig feed for all pot-bellied pigs.

Nessa

BREED: Sheep

AGE: 8 years old

"Nessa" came to Red Dog Farm when her owners could no longer care for her.  We will update you on her Bio as we get to know her better.

Her adoption fee, as well as the 5 goats in her herd, will be $75 each or $50 each for three or more.

Penelope

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: Baby

"Penelope" is a very friendly baby pot bellied pig who came to us when a good Samaritan found out that she was living in a tupperware container in her previous home. Pot bellied pigs are farm animals, period. They are NOT indoor pets, and we have way too many surrendered because people don't realize when they buy them that they will grow to be 75 - 150 pounds. Penelope needs a home where she will have plenty of room to run and play, a wallowing hole for summer and a safe place to sleep (like a stall or run-in shed). She also needs very secure fencing as pigs can root under flimsy fencing. Please spread the word about this sweet girl!

Scooter, Mack, Sugar, Spice and Pepper

BREED:  Nigerian Dwarf Goats

AGE: Young Kids

On June 10th we took in 21 goats from a situation in which the owner could no longer care for them and did not have adequate space for the herd.  We are currently settling all of these goats in to foster homes and our veterinarians will make rounds this week and next to castrate all of the males and vaccinate and deworm everyone.  There are four large breed goats (1 female Boer, 1 female Nubian and two large mixes) who are quite tame and a plethora of younger Nigerians and crosses (including seven kids) who are quite skittish.  Once they are all fully vetted and we have been able to handle and tame them a bit, they will all be adoptable.  We will post updates each week.

Update! These five little goats are very cute and still very young.  Their adoption fees are $100 for one, $75 each for two, or $50 each for three or more.

Update! The boys, Scooter and Mack, are one year old and the girls, Sugar, Spice and Pepper are 18 months old. Scooter and Mack have been neutered but the girls may be pregnant.

Wendy

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: 2 years old

"Wendy" was found as a stray in Gaston County and taken to the animal shelter there. She won over the volunteers there and was even featured in the newspaper (see link).  A concerned citizen brought her to us and she is settling in to her foster home. Wendy is very tame and very friendly!   Wendy needs a safe, enclosed area where she can exercise as well as shelter in the form of a stall or run-in shed where she can stay out of the rain and wind.  We recommend Mazuri Mini Pig feed for all pot-bellied pigs.  Pet pigs often live to be 12 to 15 years old, so Wendy needs someone willing to make a long term commitment to her care. Pigs need very sturdy fencing as they like to root and will dig under a flimsy fence.  The fencing should be either buried chain link or wooden fencing with woven wire.

Magnolia

BREED:

AGE: 1 year old

Update 7/1 -  Magnolia aka Maggie is right around one year old and is pregnant. She's due some time in the fall.

Bella

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: Young

Bella is pot bellied pig who came to us after her owners determined they no longer had the appropriate space for her.  Bella is very tame and quite social.  She took to our volunteers instantly.  She is use to human affection and LOVES to get a good belly rub.  Bella adores fruit such as apples and melon.  She also discovered the baby pool in her foster home and has had a grand time playing in it in this heat.  Bella needs   a safe, enclosed area where she can exercise as well as shelter in the form of a stall or run-in shed where she can stay out of the rain and wind.  We recommend Mazuri Mini Pig feed for all pot-bellied pigs.  Pet pigs often live to be 12 to 15 years old, so Bella needs someone willing to make a long term commitment to her care.

Oreo, Sten, Franklin & Eleanor

BREED: Pygmy Goats/ Nigerian Dwarf Goats

AGE: Young Adult

"Oreo" (black and white) and “Sten” (solid black) are young male pygmy goats who came to us from different situations but have become great friends in their foster home, so we would like to adopt them out together.  Oreo is 2 years old and Sten is 3 years old.  Oreo came to us from a situation of neglect where he had lived on a chain and been fed and cared for by the owner’s neighbors, who eventually bought him and brought him to us.  Sten was originally found as a stray and his surrendering owners did a great job raising him but didn’t have room to get him a goat friend, which they knew he needed.  Both have been vaccinated and castrated and are very friendly and outgoing with humans.

"Franklin" (black male) and "Eleanor" (white and tan female) were surrendered to us by Forsyth County animal control after being found as strays.  They are very social and enjoy human interaction.  Our veterinarian guessed Franklin to be about a year old and Eleanor to be 2 or 3 years old.  Franklin has been castrated.  Both have been vaccinated and dewormed.

May 2 update!  We have now combined Franklin, Eleanor, Oreo and Sten as one herd and they are adorable!  The four of them get along great and we'd love to keep them all together and adopt them out as a herd if possible.  Their total adoption fee for all four will be $300.

Albert & Cornelius

BREED: Pot-Bellied Pigs

AGE: 3 months old

“Albert and Cornelius” are 4 month old potbellied pig brothers who were surrendered when their owner could no longer care for them.  They have now been neutered and are available for adoption.  They are timid so we are working to socialize them.  They are sharing a stall and paddock and love to snuggle together in the hay and shavings in their stall.  They “tuck themselves in” for bed every night and sleep side by side.  Pigs are incredibly clean animals and will not go to the bathroom in their stall.  In fact, if we shut them in they will “hold it” until we let them out into their paddock.

These boys weigh about 30 pounds each now but will be 100 – 125 pounds each when full grown.  They need a home that has very secure fencing (wooden fencing reinforced with woven wire is great) as they do like to root and will root under a flimsy fence.

Their adoption fee is $150 each; this is to help cover the cost for their neuter surgery and feed.  We recommend Mazuri Mini Pig feed for all pot-bellied pigs.

Mrs. Fancy Pants & Mrs. Pepper

BREED:

AGE: 6 & 10 years old

Update 6/26 - These 2 girls are now vaccinated, are quite tame and are ready to be adopted. They are being fostered together and we would like to adopt them out together as they would make a great little herd.

TC

BREED: Alpine Goat

AGE: 1 year old

“TC” was found as a stray in the Asheboro area several weeks ago. His owners were never found so he made his way into our program. He has been castrated and examined by our veterinarian and believed to be around one year old. He is very sweet but still a little nervous. His foster Mom will have him spoiled in no time as he has already discovered that he likes to take food from your hand. TC will be available for adoption after May 20th.

Stumpy & Snickers

BREED: Pygmy Goat/ Nigerian Dwarf Goat

AGE: 4 and 2 years old

"Stumpy" came to us as a buck from a hoarding situation. He had lived in isolation because his horns were so croked that one formed a perfect spear and made it dangerous for him to play with other goats because when he tried to play he would inadvertently spear them. We do not normally advocate dehorning goats, but in Stumpy's case we made an exception to allow him to live a normal life in a herd. He was dehorned under general anesthesia when he was castrated, which was very expensive but the only humane way to do it. Stumpy is very sweet and enjoys Saltines and Cheerios as treats in his foster home.

"Snickers" is a precious 2 year old Nigerian Dwarf who came to us as a buck from a hoarding situation. He has now been vaccinated, dewormed and castrated under general anesthesia. He is a bit shy but will come to us for treats. He is a very gentle, tiny little guy. What a love!

Update - "Snickers and Stumpy" are now sharing a stall and paddock and have become best buddies. Before they were castrated (neutered), all they wanted to do was fight. We castrate all male goats in our program (i) to allow them to live a peaceful life in a herd, (ii) to prevent them from being used for breeding as there are already more goats needing homes than good homes for them, (iii) because castrated male goats have no scent (unlike stinky intact males), and (iv) because castrated males are friendlier and make much better pets. Hopefully these boys will be adopted together. As you can see, they have become very tame and love to get Saltine crackers as treats!

Toffee & Bonnie

BREED:

AGE: 3 & 8 years old

Clover & Basil

BREED: Boer/Nubian

AGE: Young Adult

Basil and Clover are mother and son.  They came to us from a case of neglect in eastern NC in which the Humane Society of the United States asked for our help with the farm animals involved.  They were adopted from us last year but their adoptive owners had to sell their farm, so they brought them back to us so that we could find another great home.  They are gorgeous, healthy, friendly goats who will follow you around for attention.

Their adoption fee is $150 and they must stay together.  Basil has been castrated and both have been vaccinated.

Basil and Clover are very tame and stand nicely for us to trim their feet.

Chestnut & Mischief

BREED: Angora/Pygmy Cross and Pygmy Goat

AGE: 9 years & 4 Years old

These girls came to us together and are very bonded, so we'd like to keep them together.  They have been vaccinated and are now adoptable.  Chestnut (brown) is very social and will let you pet her. She has grown a beautiful long winter coat and must be an angora mix and she is wooly almost like a sheep.  Mischief is still a bit timid but will come up for treats.

Their joint adoption fee is $100.

Chestnut, Mischief, Basil and Clover are now sharing a goat paddock and they all get along very well.  They would make a great herd of four or two herds of two.

Bubba Lee

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: 9 months old

"Bubba Lee" was raised as an indoor pet but became too much to handle because he was not castrated and hit pig puberty.  Male pigs should be castrated by 6 months old so that they do not become aggressive.  Bubba has now been castrated and vaccinated and is a much calmer, sweeter boy.  His original owners did a fabulous job of socializing him, so he loves people and is not afraid of much at all.  He even rides quietly in the car in his crate.  Bubba will continue to need to have manners reinforced, much like a puppy at his age.  He is now enjoying outdoor life in the barn and would be happiest in a farm environment with other animals.  Bubba's adoption fee is $100.

Patti

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

AGE: 3 years old

"Patti" is a BIG potbellied pig who was surrendered when her owner could no longer afford her.  She lived inside for the first year of her life and has been an outdoor pig for the last two years.  Patti is very tame and social and enjoys treats and having her ears scratched.  She weighs about 200 pounds and needs a safe, enclosed area where she can exercise as well as shelter in the form of a stall or run-in shed where she can stay out of the rain and wind.  Pet pigs often live to be 12 to 15 years old, so Patti needs someone willing to make a long term commitment to her care.  Patti's adoption fee is $100.

Patti is now sharing her field and barn in her foster home with another pot bellied pig, 5 goats, 2 mini donkeys, a mini horse and an emu and gets along just fine with everyone.  She loves to nap in the sun and graze alongside the goats and donkeys.

Bartholomew

BREED: Boer/Pygmy Cross

AGE: 1 year

"Bartholomew" came to us as an owner surrender because his owner had neck surgery and could no longer care for him.  He's a curious little guy who is timid at first but will come and sniff you out if you sit still for a minute.  He is also a big fan of treats!  Bart will be surgically castrated under general anesthesia, which is expensive but is the only humane option.  To help cover a portion of this expense as well as the cost of his vaccines (about a $250 cost to us), his adoption fee will be $150.  Bart will be ready for a new home in early March.

Update!  Bartholomew, Daisy and Leif will all be adopted together on March 17th and will move to Eastern NC.  Hooray!

Leif Ericson

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE:

"Leif Ericson" came to us this morning from the Guilford County animal shelter. He had been seized in a cruelty investigation and had been living in a dog crate before animal control officers found him. He is a precious young goat with gorgeous blue eyes who is understandably terrified right now, but he has settled in to his warm stall. Leif has now been castrated. Leif and Daisy have become the very best of friends through the fence separating their two paddocks and even sleep side by side. We will let them share a paddock as soon as Leif has healed from surgery and is allowed to play. We would really like to see them adopted together.

Their joint adoption fee will be $250 to help cover a portion of their medical bills. Because we had to surgically castrate Leif under general anesthesia (and had to vaccinate and deworm both of them), their vet care was very expensive.

Daisy

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: 4 years old

"Daisy" is a gorgeous pygmy goat who came to us as an ownder surrender.  Her owner bought two goats but did not read about goat care, so he did not know that goats need to be dewormed on a regular basis.  When Daisy's companion died of anemia as a result of not being dewormed, he asked us to take Daisy because he felt terrible and wanted her to be somewhere where she would receive proper veterinary care.  Daisy has now been dewormed and vaccinated and is ready to be adopted.

She is a sweet, timid girl who is a bit wary of humans but is slowly warming up to us.  She would love the company of other friendly goats.

Daisy and Leif are now best friends! Their joint adoption fee will be $250 to help cover a portion of their medical bills.  Because we had to surgically castrate Leif under general anesthesia (and had to vaccinate and deworm both of them), their vet care was very expensive.

Kevin Bacon

BREED: Landrace/ Pot-Bellied Pig Cross

AGE: Baby

This adorable little guy was found by a good Samaritan as a piglet (he must have fallen off the truck!) and nursed back to health.  He is very social and will make a great pet in a farm environment.

Update: Our Veterinarian thinks that Kevin Bacon is actually a pot-bellied pig crossed with a farm pig, so he will probably only be 150 pounds or so.  He has one blue eye, which apparently is a Pot-Bellied Pig trait and not a farm pig trait. Pigs are very smart and can be taught to do all sorts of tricks!

Kevin's adoption fee is $75.

Sundrop

BREED: Nigerian Dwarf

Sundrop was adopted from us last year along with Clover & Basil (above) but their adoptive owners had to sell their farm, so they brought them back to us so that we could find another great home.

Sundrop is being adopted by the family who recently adopted Poptart.  We think she will be happier with some other small goats as Basil and Clover never really accepted her.

Otis & Agnes

BREED: Pot Bellied Pigs

AGE: 2 Years Old

"Otis and Agnes" came to us as owner surrenders.  They are brother and sister and are still adoptable. Myrtle (below) has been adopted.

They are VERY clean animals and will not use the bathroom in their stall.  They have made a small pile in the back corner of their outdoor paddock and they use it as their restroom.  Pigs are exceptionally smart and can be taught to do all kinds of tricks.  These three love to go for walks around the farm to eat acorns and will follow us back to their stall for food.  A great environment for them would be a stall or shelter of some kind that opens up to a field where they can play, get exercise and have grass to munch on.  They also LOVE to wallow in their swimming hole when it is hot out.

Each has received a rabies vaccine, and Otis has been castrated.

Their adoption fee is $75 each.

Poptart

BREED:Pygmy Goat

AGE: 4 Months

"Poptart" is a super cute youngster looking for a herd of goats to call his own.  He is currently with other pygmy goats in his foster home and is doing very well.  He has already been vaccinated and castrated, so he is ready to be adopted.

Poptart's adoption fee is $100.

Myrtle

BREED: Pot Bellied Pig

Myrtle has been adopted!

Lily, Socks, Buttercup, Pansy, and PJ

BREED: Nubian

AGE: 3 Months to 4 Years

Lily, Socks, Buttercup, Pansy, and PJ (Pansy Jr.) came to Red Dog Farm when their owners had to move back to Greensboro to be closer to work. Their foster mom is completely in love with them!  They are the sweetest and most friendly herd of goats she has seen to date.  These guys are healthy and up to date on their vaccines. Socks and PJ were castrated by our veterinarian. Because they are so attached to each other we would love for someone to be able to adopt the whole herd. If we do have to split the herd, Pansy and PJ could go together and Lily, Socks and Buttercup could go together.

We have the male goats who come to us surgically castrated under general anesthesia.  This method is expensive but is the most humane method of castration.

To help offset a portion of our vet costs, adoption fees will be $350 for either (a) Lily, Socks and Buttercup or (b) Pansy and PJ, or $500 for all five.

Norman

BREED: Charolais / Longhorn Cross Steer

AGE: 4 Months

Norman is a shy but sweet little guy looking for a home where he can be a family pet.  Ideally we'd like to find a small herd of cattle to take him in, but we want to be assured that he will be a pet and not slaughtered for beef. Norman will now let us scratch his chin and ears and follows us around at meal time.  He has been vaccinated by our veterinarian.

Norman's adoption fee is $350.

Hunni

BREED: Boer Goat

AGE: 4 Months

Hunni was the 100th goat to enter our foster network, so we named him "Mr. 100" but we call him "Hunni."  He is very tame and has been vaccinated, castrated and dewormed.  He is now in a small herd of goats and gets along with everyone he meets.  Hunni is a lovebug and will be a great pet.  He needs to go to a home where he will have at least one other goat to play with.

We have the male goats who come to us surgically castrated under general anesthesia.  This method is expensive but is the most humane method of castration.  In order to help offset a portion of the cost of Hunni’s surgery, his adoption fee will be $150.

Snowy

BREED: Nubian wether

AGE: 1 Year

Snowy was adopted so fast we never even got his bio on the website!  He went to a great new home with Hunni.

Bo Peep

BREED: Sheep

AGE: Young

SEX: Female
COLOR: Black

"Bo Peep" is a sweet young sheep who came to us from the Guilford County Animal Shelter.  She had a huge wool coat and was very hot so our veterinarian sheared her.  She is a bit embarrassed of her short new coat but is much cooler!  We will update her bio as we get to know her.

Franklin and Eleanor

BREED: Nigerian Dwarf Goats

AGE: Young

"Franklin" (black male) and "Eleanor" (white and tan female) were surrendered to us by Forsyth County animal control after being found as strays.  They are very social and enjoy human interaction.  Our veterinarian guessed Franklin to be about a year old and Eleanor to be 2 or 3 years old.  Franklin has been castrated.  Both have been vaccinated and dewormed.  These two are very bonded and we'd like to keep them together.  Their joint adoption fee is $150.

Franklin and Eleanor will jump a fence if the grass is greener on the other side, so they either need a tall fence or an adoptive home where they can be put in a secure area (like a barn) when their humans are not there to supervise.

Click here to view a quick video of Franklin and Eleanor.

Amelia

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: Adult
COLOR: Black

Amelia is a very sweet pygmy goat who was adopted from us a few years ago but came back to us (with Hobo, Bonnie and Clyde) when her adoptive owner experienced health issues.  She is a sweet, friendly goat who would do well with other pygmies or any other small goats.  She has been examined by our veterinarian, vaccinated and dewormed.

The adoption fees for Bonnie, Clyde and Amelia are $100 each or $250 for all three, which will help offset the cost of their veterinary exam and vaccines.

Roxy

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: 6 years old

SEX: Female

“Roxy” came to us from animal control as a very sick and skinny goat.  She has been examined by our veterinarian and is currently on medication for a virus in her mouth and eyes that is making her feel terrible.  This poor girl has been through a lot and is now in great hands in her foster home, where her food is being soaked for her to make it easier for her to swallow.  We will update her bio as she is nursed back to health.

Update!  Roxy is feeling much better and will be available for adoption after May 10th.  She is ready to get out of quarantine and back in with a herd. We think Roxy and Amelia will make quite the dynamic duo and both are looking for homes!

Long Legs McGee

BREED: Toggenburg or Nubian cross

AGE: TBD

SEX: Male

“McGee” is a skinny little guy who looks like he is on stilts, hence the name “Long Legs McGee!”  He came to us as a stray but must have been handled regularly wherever he came from because he is very sweet and social and not at all afraid of humans.  In fact, he loves to be held.  He will be examined, vaccinated and castrated by our veterinarian on April 22nd and will then be adoptable.  We have the male goats who come to us surgically castrated under general anesthesia.  This method is expensive but is the most humane method of castration.  In order to help offset a portion of the cost of McGee’s surgery, his adoption fee will be $150.  Because he is so young, he has not yet developed any “buck-like” odor or characteristics (and won’t develop them because he will be castrated).  Once castrated, a male goat is called a “wether” and makes a fabulous pet!

Skeeter

BREED: Pygmy Goat

AGE: 10 Weeks

SEX: Male

“Skeeter” came to us from animal control and is a precious little guy.  He was castrated and vaccinated on April 19th and is ready for a new home.  In order to help pay our vet bill for his surgical castration (which is expensive but more humane than other methods), his adoption fee is $150.

Bernice

BREED: Pot bellied pig

AGE: 9 months

Bernice is a super social little girl who was raised as an indoor pig but is learning to be a barn piglet.  She will flop over and give you her belly if you rub it and also loves to be scratched behind her ears.  Bernice would do well with friendly goats or other small barnyard friends.

Bernice's adoption fee is $95.

For information regarding the care required for a potbellied pig, click here.  We feed Mazuri Mini Pig Feed, which is available at the Summerfield Feed Mill.

Hobo, Bonnie and Clyde

BREED: Boer Goat (Hobo), Nigerian Dwarfs (Bonnie and Clyde)

AGE: Young adult

Hobo is a HUGE Boer goat wether who came to us along with Amelia, Bonnie and Clyde.  He was hand raised, is 3 years old and is very, very sweet and tame.  He is absolutely huge and would be a good companion for Angelo (see below).  He is friendly with the smaller goats he came with but is definitely the boss when food is involved.  He is a big, sweet, lazy goat!

Bonnie and Clyde are 4 year old Nigerian Dwarf goats who have been together their entire life.  We will not separate them as they are extremely bonded and are always together.  They are a bit timid but are happy to eat treats out of our hands.

They have now been examined by our veterinarian, vaccinated and dewormed.

Pancake

BREED: Potbellied Pig

AGE: Young

SEX: Female

“Pancake” is a very sweet young potbellied pig who came to us because her first owner was elderly and needed Hospice care.  She was an indoor pig when she was younger but is now approximately 75 pounds so she has moved outside.  Pancake will likely be 100 -110 pounds when full grown.  She is friendly and will ask for attention once she gets to know you.  Potbellied pigs are very smart and make great pets so long as they have a safe enclosure.  They are escape artists and like to explore and root and eat neighbors’ flowers if left in an unsecure area, so good fencing is a must.  They generally get along well with goats or other small farm animals.  Pancake will need a cup or so of pig chow each morning and would love fresh fruit or veggies as treats.  She will also need to have her hooves trimmed by a veterinarian each year.  Pancake’s adoption fee is $75.

Angelo

BREED: Spanish goat

AGE: Adult

SEX: Male

WEIGHT:  150 pounds

Angelo was surrendered by owners who were ignorant as to proper care of a goat and had kept him tied to a tree.  Like eventually happens to all goats tied to trees, he got tangled in the rope and had it wrapped around his neck and legs.  Thankfully we were able to convince his owners to surrender him so that we could untangle him and move him to a safer environment.  Angelo is a bit shy but does like to take treats from us.  He has now been castrated and vaccinated by our veterinarian.  He's a BIG boy but will make a nice pet for someone willing to be patient and let him learn to trust them.  We would love to find a home for him where he had other large goats or maybe a mini horse to graze with.

Angelo's adopter will need to have a stall or secure area with at least 6 foot fencing to keep him for the first week or so while he acclimates to his new home because he can jump a 4 foot fence from a standstill.  But, once he learns where "home" is, he is content to stay there.  He is currently in 4 foot fencing and doing fine because he has bonded to his goat pals in his foster home.

Angelo's adoption fee is $150.  This fee will reimburse RDF for a portion of the vet bill we paid for his castration surgery and vaccines.

View a video clip of Angelo here.

Wilbur

BREED: pig

AGE: 6 weeks

SEX: male (neutered)

Wilbur was found on a highway as a baby with scratches and bruises.  The animal control officers think he probably fell out of a transport truck.  We think he was smart enough to jump!

Wilbur is absolutely the most friendly piglet we've ever seen.  He likes to be held (which is unheard of for a pig) and will curl up in your lap and sleep.  He'll be over 200 pounds full grown so his adoptive home will need to have a large fenced area for him.  He would do fine with goats or other small farm animals if the fencing is appropriate for him.  Pigs are very smart, social creatures and can be taught tricks just like dogs.

As far as veterinary care, pigs need a rabies vaccine each year and need to have their hooves trimmed periodically.

Uncle Bob

BREED: Nigerian Dwarf goat

AGE: 7 years

SEX: male (wether)

Uncle Bob is hands down the most tame goat we have ever come across.  He seems to think he is a person!  He was surrendered to us because his companion goat died and his owners felt like he needed a new goat friend, but he really seems to prefer humans to other goats.  Uncle Bob would be happiest somewhere that he would be petted a lot!  We normally require that goats be adopted in pairs, but Uncle Bob would probably do fine with a horse or other animal as a companion so long as he got a lot of human attention.

Uncle Bob has been examined, vaccinated and dewormed by our veterinarian.  His adoption fee is $100 to help cover that expense.

Flip Flop

BREED: Nubian goat

AGE: 5 months

SEX: male

Flip Flop came to us from the Guilford County Animal Shelter.  He was shy at first but now loves people, especially if they have treats!  He got his name from his floppy ears!

Flip Flop has now been vaccinated, castrated and dewormed by our veterinarian.  His adoption fee is $100 to help cover that expense.

Goats are very social creatures and need at least one goat buddy.  They also need predator proof fencing to keep them safe.  We recommend wooden fencing with predator-proof wire.  Electric horse fencing is not suitable for goats.

Be Bop

BREED: Pygmy goat

AGE: Young Adult

SEX: female

Be Bop came to us from the Guilford County Animal Shelter.  She loves treats will follow you around for them, but is still a little bit nervous about being touched.  She and Flip Flop are currently sharing a stall and paddock and get along very well, though she is the boss at feeding time.

BeBop looks like she may be pregnant.  Her adoption fee is $100, which will help offset the cost of her veterinary exam and vaccines.

Goats are very social creatures and need at least one goat buddy.  They also need predator proof fencing to keep them safe.  We recommend wooden fencing with predator-proof wire.  Electric horse fencing is not suitable for goats.

Sun Drop

BREED: Nigerian Dwarf goat

AGE: Young Adult

SEX: female

Sun Drop came to us from the Guilford County Animal Shelter.  She will be vaccinated and dewormed on October 22nd and will then be adoptable.  Because she was housed with Flip Flop at the animal shelter, she could be pregnant.  Sun Drop is a tiny little girl and is quite shy right now but we are working on that by offering her treats quite often.

We'll set her adoption fee after her veterinary exam.

Wentworth

BREED: Peacock

AGE: Young Adult

SEX: Male

Wentworth came to us from the Forsyth County Animal Shelter.  He will need an adopter who is experienced with peacocks and has the correct enclosure and environment for him.  He is friendly and is not fearful of people.

Bianca

BREED: Bunny

AGE: Adult

SEX: Female

Bianca came to Red Dog Farm after being found wandering a local neighborhood.  It appears that someone either let Bianca go or she got away from someone.  She was covered with over 400 ticks, which the veterinary staff at Sedgefield Animal Hospital and Dental Center were kind enough to remove for her.  Bianca is a fantastic rabbit and has obviously been someone's pet.  She will make a great family pet for someone looking a bunny to adopt.  Our volunteers and the veterinary staff reports that she is one of the sweetest bunnies they have ever met.  If you are interested in giving Bianca a forever home, please fill out an adoption application above.

Calvin

BREED: Nigerian Dwarf Goat

"Calvin" came to us from Forsyth County Animal Control.  He is a very friendly little guy and is absolutely precious!  He'd be a great addition to either Julie and Jane or Franklin and Eleanor.  Calvin has been vaccinated and castrated and is now adoptable.  His adoption fee is $100 if he is adopted alone or $75 if combined with another pair of goats adopted from us.  Goats are very social herd animals, so they are happier with goat friends to play with.

Julie and Miss Jane

BREED: Pygmy

AGE: Julie (3), Jane (1)

Julie and Miss Jane are young pygmy does who came to us from Forsyth County animal control.  We are guessing that Julie is Jane's mother as they are extremely bonded.  Because Julie and Jane are so bonded to one another, we'd like to adopt them out together.  They are a bit timid of new people at first but warm up quickly, especially if new people have Cheerios to feed them as treats!  Their joint adoption fee is $200.

Bullwinkle

BREED: Boer Goat

AGE: 1 Year

"Bullwinkle" was abandoned at a rental house when the tenant moved out.  He is extremely sweet and social and loves people.  He will be castrated, vaccinated, and dewormed by our veterinarian and will then be adoptable.  His adoption fee will be $125.  Bullwinkle would make a great addition to any goat herd and is friendly enough to be housed with smaller goats even though he's a big boy.

"Ba Ba"

the black sheep

BREED: Suffolk

AGE: 1-2 Years

"Ba Ba" was found as a stray in Forsyth County and surrendered to animal control, who called us.  She is extremely friendly and not a bit fearful of people.  She especially likes to have her head scratched.  Ba Ba has a deformed hoof that our veterinarian checked out, trimmed, and determined is not painful to her.  She does not limp at all.  She has been vaccinated and is ready to go to a new home.  Because we don't know her history, we don't know whether she is pregnant.  What a sweet girl!  Ba Ba's adoption fee is $150.

Tinkerbell

BREED: Pygmy Goat

DOB: May 23, 2010

Tinkerbell was surrendered to us after her mother died when she was a week old.  One of our volunteers is currently bottle feeding her.  She is in a foster home with other goats and is doing very well.  Tinkerbell would be a good companion for Julie and Jane or Franklin and Eleanor (below), or could be adopted by someone who already has pygmy goats for her to play with.  Tinkerbell will be vaccinated when she is old enough.  Her adoption fee is $150.

Clover and Basil

BREED:  Boer/Nubian cross

"Clover" (mom) and "Basil" (son) came to us from a situation of horrible neglect in Greene County, NC in which the Humane Society of the United States Animal Cruelty Response Team was called in to help animal control confiscate over 70 animals (mostly pigs) from a farm.  HSUS called us and asked us if we could take the two goats, which we were happy to do.  You can read the HSUS press release about this case and view pictures here.  You'll see Clover and Basil on page 9 of 14.  Because of the political power of the pig farmers in Greene County, HSUS lost this case and was forced to return the animals to the owner.  How awful!  Thankfully we were able to negotiate to keep these two goats, who will be adoptable as soon as Basil is castrated.  Because we have to start from scratch with vaccines and pay for his castration surgery, their joint adoption fee will be $200.

Update!  Basil has now been castrated.  Clover and Basil and now both ready to go to their new home.  They are doing wonderfully in their foster home and would make a great addition to someone's farm.

Peter and Thumper

BREED: Bunnies

AGE: Young

Peter (black bunny, top 2 photos) is a loving bunny who loves to have attention. He loves having a special bunny salad in the afternoon and sometimes will give bunny "kisses" for special treats.

Thumper is the white bunny. Thumper loves his bunny salad and is really thrilled to have pellets as a treat every now and then. Thumper does not liked being picked up and will give a firm "thump" on the floor when you make him mad. Neither of the two bunnies like each other and need to be separate so that they will not fight.

Bella

BREED: Nubian

DOB:  March 2, 2010

"Bella" was a triplet whose mother rejected all three of her kids.  Another female goat who had lost a kid accepted Bella's siblings, but not Bella.  Therefore, Bella was surrendered to us and is being bottle fed.  We plan to wean her at about 8 weeks old (May 1st or so) and she will be adoptable at that time.  Bella is currently sharing a stall and paddock with two nice adult goats who are teaching her goat behavior.  She is an absolute doll and has won over the heart of every volunteer who has pitched in to help bottle feed her.  Bella will need to be adopted with some of our other goats or by someone who already has other goats as pets.  Her adoption fee will be set after she is vaccinated.

Update!  Bella was adopted by one of our volunteers who fell in love!

Jon and Morgan

BREED: Pygmy  goat (wether)

AGE: 1 year

Jon and Morgan were abandoned at the Greensboro Montessori School with a bag of carrots.  The school called us for help when they found them on the playground.  We named the goats after two gentlemen at the school who helped us round them up.  Jon and Morgan have now been vaccinated and castrated and are ready for a new home.

They are very bonded to one another and we would like to keep them together.  Because we had to have both surgically castrated (which is expensive!) as well as vaccinated and dewormed, their joint adoption fee is $200.

Curtis

BREED: Emu

"Curtis" came to us as a stray and has taught all of us a lot about emu care as this was new to us!  He is very social and enjoys attention.  He eats a mixture of chicken feed and fresh fruit and enjoys having his neck petted.  Curtis needs a home with at least 6 foot fencing as emu can jump very easily.  He is very curious about other animals but we have not left him alone with any other animals so far.  If you are interested in adopting Curtis, please complete the application above.
